RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a bold new survival twist on a classic universe
A brand new RuneScape adventure is on the horizon, and it’s taking the beloved fantasy universe in a bold new direction. Jagex has just unveiled RuneScape: Dragonwilds, an open world survival crafting game that drops you into the mysterious continent of Ashenfall. It’s launching into Early Access in spring 2025, and yep, it’s powered by Unreal Engine 5.
Set in a magical corner of Gielinor we’ve never seen before, Dragonwilds promises a fresh but familiar experience. The setup? Dragons have awoken, the continent is in chaos, and it’s up to you to gather resources, craft tools, level up your skills, and survive the wild. Oh, and eventually face off against the Dragon Queen herself. No pressure.
What makes Dragonwilds stand out is its unique spin on survival gameplay. You won’t just be chopping trees and building huts (although there is plenty of that too). You’ll wield a powerful magical force called Anima. Think spectral axes that do your chopping for you, or nature-infused powers that mend your broken armour on the go.
It’s a co-op experience at heart, letting you jump in solo or team up with up to three friends. Whether you’re exploring the lush landscapes of Ashenfall or fending off legendary RuneScape creatures, there’s a mix of mystery, danger and discovery waiting around every corner.
And yes, this is a proper RuneScape game. Jagex has pulled together a new team of industry veterans, and they’ve already been testing the waters with closed alphas alongside loyal fans. The studio says community feedback is key and will continue shaping the game throughout Early Access.
Want a sneak peek? You can wishlist RuneScape: Dragonwilds on Steam right now, and if you’re curious to see it in action, there’s a deep-dive stream happening on Twitch at 5PM BST on 15 April. Mark your calendars.
Magic, mystery and multiplayer mayhem await in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. We’re in.
