Atomfall smashes past 1.5 million players – and a whole lot of cups of tea
It turns out that all you need to survive the apocalypse is a cricket bat, a pasty, and maybe a hot cuppa.
Rebellion’s new post-apocalyptic survival game Atomfall has absolutely stormed out of the gates, racking up over 1.5 million players in its launch weekend. That’s a huge milestone for Rebellion — and actually the studio’s biggest launch ever in its 32-year history.
Set in a fictionalised version of northern England after a nuclear disaster (inspired by the real-life Windscale incident of the ‘50s), Atomfall sends players into a quarantine zone filled with strange characters, eerie countryside, and plenty of danger. But apparently, a lot of you are dealing with that danger the British way.
According to Rebellion, Atomfall players have collectively chugged 300,000 cups of tea, eaten over 4 million pasties, and — less peacefully — committed 3.7 million cricket bat kills. Truly a nation of polite savages.
“We are delighted that so many players are enjoying Atomfall,” said Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley. “Our size and stability mean that we can take risks to create something as different as Atomfall. Happily, that risk is paying off.”
And pay off it has: Atomfall is not only proving a hit with players, but critics have been warming to its blend of survival, exploration and weirdly charming Britishness too. (Fun fact: over 316,000 players have already murdered the game’s very first scientist character. We’re not sure what that says about us.)
If you fancy seeing what all the nuclear fuss is about, Atomfall is out now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC — and yep, it’s included in Game Pass.
Go on then. Pop the kettle on and jump in.
